[Finished] Banana socks for my baby

project notes
I started these when my boy started showing signs of walking, thinking I would whip them out before his first birthday, and then I hated doing so much ribbing (the backs are all ribbing!) on double pointed needles that it took me an eternity. Eventually what forced me to finish is I needed the needles for another project.

They took me so long I worried they wouldn't fit him anymore! Luckily they still do.
These are banana socks. There are a lot of patterns available for this, this is the one I modified (for size).
adding sticky bottoms
Socks for little kids usually have sticky bottoms so that they don't slip and fall everywhere when running in their socks on smooth floors. For my daughter I just tell her to be careful (and she's learned to love to slide across our wooden floor like Tom Cruise in Risky Business, and my handknit socks are the only ones she can do it in!). But for my son it felt prudent to either solve the issue or to only let him wear them with shoes. He takes shoes off, though.
So I bought Sock Stopper. I initially only applied tiny dots but this was the same as doing nothing. It seriously made no difference at all. So the second time I cut out some pieces of cardboard to keep the socks flat and really globbed it on.

Now they definitely make a difference as to slipperiness, though it is not as anti-slip as commercially purchased socks.
other notes
I made these entirely with leftover yarn from another project. Free socks!
